I first tried Crossfit in 2007 and I was immediately hooked. In 2009 I received my Crossfit Level 1 certificate and began coaching and I’ve been doing it ever since. What drew me into Crossfit so quickly was the struggle of each work out and the camaraderie that environment builds. Those are my two favourite aspects of Crossfit, the challenge of each work out and the community that is built from it. Crossfit is unique in its ability to bring people together, people that otherwise wouldn't have crossed paths. We experience the same struggle, sweat the same, occasionally bleed, and always use more chalk than we need. This to me is Crossfit.
My favorite parts of being a coach are the high energy situations. When someone gets their first muscle up or a big PR it turns the gym electric and everyone can feel that. I love the bond formed by coaching athletes through the open and competitions. I like seeing people continually push to improve themselves. Effort is something I really appreciate, whether it's the long term consistency to get that first muscle up or snatch PR, or someone trying to squeeze out those last few reps before the end of a WOD. I look forward to the transformation of someone who is new to crossfit, seeing what 6 months or a year of training does to that person’s confidence, health, fitness, and overall quality of life.
I am thankful to do what I love, and I’m grateful to do it with my amazing wife Jane and family.

My passion for sports began at a young age with gymnastics. I was involved in the sport for about 10 years as an athlete and a coach. I worked with high performance level athletes preparing them for competitions physically, mentally and emotionally. Before I found CrossFit, I became a personal trainer where I got to work with clients one on one helping them achieve their goals and improve their lifestyle. I was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 and never looked back. I fell in love with the concept of CrossFit – functional fitness, constantly varied, performed at high intensity. Most importantly I fell in love with the community. Since 2012, I have been a crossfitter and a coach. In 2016 I had the opportunity to participate in the West Regional as a team member of the CrossFit Currie Barracks. I will always cherish this experience.
The part that I enjoy about coaching is the ability to connect and build a community around you of like-minded people. It is this community of people that pushes you to be a better athlete and a better coach. As a coach, my passion lies in teaching people how to execute movement with virtuosity – “performing the common uncommonly well”. It allows people to improve their posture, rehab from an injury or prevent injury all together. It goes without saying that watching people learn new skills and achieve their goals is inspiring and rewarding.

The passion I have for sports and wellness comes from home. Being born into a family of avid skiers and having a father who skied for the German National Cross Country team was just the start. I snowboarded competitively for 8 years and then suffered a major knee injury. After rehabilitating my own knee I was intrigued by sport rehabilitation. This lead to my education at Trinity Western University in the field of Human Kinetics with a joint certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal University.
After practising Athletic Therapy for a number of years I notice a commonality among many athletes, weaknesses in certain areas and overdevelopment in others. I sought out a better form of strength and conditioning. This search brought me to CrossFit in 2010. I tried CrossFit as an athlete first and became a coach a year later. Since then I have enjoyed taking courses specific to kids training, olympic lifting, aerobic conditioning and sports nutrition.
I’m excited to be a part of the CrossFit Sunalta community and hope to offer up some of my knowledge to those looking to improve their own quality of life. I truly believe CrossFit has no boundaries and can be a positive training method for everyone.

I grew up as a "jack of all sports, and a master of none.” I played basketball, softball, volleyball and rock climbing until I graduated, then activity fell by the wayside. In 2008 I first became aware of Crossfit and was interested, but figured there was no way I'd ever be in good enough shape to participate in it. Five years later, I realized that the only thing that wasn't ready to try Crossfit was my mind - that Crossfit could work for everyone and I joined a gym in 2013.
As soon as I walked into the gym, I was welcomed into a community. I quickly found myself not only building strength and learning new skills, but also finding friendships. I connected with people I would have never met were it not for sharing a barbell or a post workout high-fives.
It excites me to see members of the community develop their potential, increasing their strength, skills, and athleticism. Whether your goal is to do a single box jump, a three plate deadlift or carrying heavy groceries in one trip, I look forward to helping you get there.
